Where Can The Cake Base Be Used?

Cake boards are flat supports placed under the cake for easy lifting and transport. A cake is placed on a cake board, and then spends the rest of its "life" on the board: decorated on the board, transported on the board, and served from the board. Cake boards come in different sizes and shapes, disposable and reusable.

They can be circles, squares, rectangles, heart shapes and all kinds of shapes.

A cake board shouldn't just be the exact size of the cake underneath it. There should be at least 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) around for decoration: so how do you go about it? Here's an article devoted to it: How To Cover A Cake Board?

The role of the cake board

Undecorated cake boards are usually corrugated on the underside and white on the top. You cover them with something grease-resistant, like foil or paper towels. You may also get a cake board that is already decorated, for example, with a patterned design printed on it, with scalloped ("frilly") edges.

Cake boards are also used for stacking cakes, especially in cakes that use bases to stack layers, such as classic wedding cakes. The cake board distributes the weight of the cake to the four posts and prevents the posts from passing through the cake layer just above them.

These reusable cake boards offer more support than cardboard cake boards, which is especially important for the middle of a large cake. Even a little looseness in the middle of a large cake can cause the decoration to wrinkle or crack, or worse, the cake to split. Large tiered wedding cakes can become unstable and tip over if the cardboard cake board used cannot support all the tiered layers. Laminated cardboard has an advantage in layered cakes, allowing you to thread sharp dowel rods through them to create long posts through multiple layers.

Disposable cake boards are cardboard.

The reusable ones are made of Masonite and are about 1/2 cm (1/4 inch) thick. The reusable one needs to be covered on both sides to make it water and grease-resistant. As a wholesaler or a cake shop sales professional, we recommend writing down your name, phone number and company LOGO, etc., which can help you promote the cake brand and increase its influence, so that next time customers want to buy again When you can see the above contact information to find suppliers. And there's the added benefit of helping convince people to actually return them, not just throw them away if you need to recycle them.

Cake boards can also be used to serve other types of food such as snacks, sandwiches, etc.

For lighter desserts or just as a base, 3mm thick cardboard is best.  Again, use 2 to 3 inches of space to display the cake and limit what falls when it arrives.

If you are making heavy cakes such as fruit cakes, wedding cakes or big friend's parties, christening, Christmas, or birthday cakes, it is best to use the "12mm Drum" cake board. These boards are thick, giving you the strength and stiffness to transport the cake.

Choose a board that is at least two inches larger than the cake board; this allows for marzipan, the thickness of icing, and any decoration around the edges of the board. If you plan to place decorations or lettering on the board, it may be better to use a larger size cake board.

Since these cakes are lighter, you may choose to use a thinner "3mm cardboard" that won't overwhelm the cake. Again, choose a cake board that's at least 2 inches larger, as you'll need room for decoration. A thick board like a drum would be better. Remember to leave about two inches on the sides of the display and any caramel lines, so depending on the number of puff pastries involved and the desired height, about 12 inches will be needed.

Other cake board shapes such as hearts and hexagons can be ordered

Heart, hexagonal and rectangular plates are available for special shaped or novelty cakes. We stock rectangular boards in 5 sizes, from 10 x 13 inches all the way up to huge 32 x 20-inch planks.

You can always make your board stand out by double stacking two contrasting colors. Stack one slightly larger than the other to complement the cake design. They can also be used to create a layer in cakes. Taped together with double-sided tape and wrapped with a matching ribbon, it can be the focal point on the cake.
